All reviewsReview of the bookmaker Star Sports from Legalbet
Star Sports claim to be “The UK’s leading luxury bookmaker”. They can trace their roots back to 1999 when they launched as Star Racing. Now based in Brighton, Star Racing was rebranded in 2009 to reflect this growth and the wider portfolio of services offered to its clients.
They are a more upmarket bookmaker and do offer a more, discrete, personalised, high-quality service than many, as they put it “faceless chains”. They claim to accommodate some of the largest bets struck in the industry and regularly reward their clients for their loyalty.
Odds — normal
We calculated the margin for Star Sports by analysing the odds they offer. We further ranked them in one of the following three categories:
From 1% to 5%: Good value
Over 5% to 7%: Average value
Over 7% to 10%: Poor value
Football
We’re getting our results by taking into account the odds for final result outcomes measured in line with the total goals scored for different football leagues. By getting the average results using this method, we were able to obtain the margins for each league and also the overall betting margin for the bookmaker.
Star Sports has an overall margin of 5.57% for football and falls in the average value category. In the first section using odds from the Premier League, the margin is at 5.29%. The second section with Spanish La Liga and Italy Serie A, the margin is at 4.86%. Finally, by counting the English Football League One, Austrian Bundesliga and Polish Ekstraklasa, the margin is at 6.56%.
Betting options — good
Star Sports main subject is Horse racing as this is what they cover the most. Except from a full card for the UK and Irish races, they also offer US and European meetings with Early and Starting Prices.
Football is also well handled with all the major Championships and events in place. The coupon layout is really good and a nice feature of it is that any change on the odds is displayed in real time and flashes up for you, making every odd movement very clear.
Once you open a game which you want to see through, you will find a very simple to use layout, one of the best we’ve seen actually. The most popular options are located at the top (final result, correct score, etc) with less popular ones being at the bottom (both teams to score in both halves etc). The markets about the players are rich with odds available on First and Anytime Goal Scorer, Hat-trick scorer and more all priced up.
There’s also the build-a-bet feature, which allows you to create accumulators from various markets of the same match, creating one of your own which in most cases has juicy odds to bet on.
Live — normal
The “In Play” on the other hand is average, with its main highlight being that almost every football match there is being offered. There is no Horse Racing covered which is a disadvantage of it. Also, the live streaming of matches could be better, although the game data and live description section is very helpful on getting a feel for how the game is working out. Football is not the only sport you can bet on though, as they also include less popular sports such as snooker, ice hockey, table tennis and more on their portfolio.
