Review of the bookmaker Sportpesa from Legalbet

SportPesa is one of the most popular African bookmakers that made its presence in Europe following a series of partnerships with important football clubs like Everton, Southampton, Torino. After expanding their operation, Sport Pesa managed to get their license by the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission and the UK Gambling Commission.

Odds — normal

We calculated the margin for Sportpesa by analysing the odds they offer and placed them into one of the following three categories:

From 1% to 5%: Good value

Over 5% to 7%: Average value

Over 7% to 10%: Poor value

Football

We’re getting our results by taking into account the odds for final result outcomes measured in line with the total goals scored for different football leagues. By getting the average results using this method, we were able to obtain the margins for each league and also the overall betting margin for the bookmaker.

Sportpesa has an overall margin of 6.28% for football and falls in the average value category. In the first section using odds from the Premier League, the margin is at 6.13%. The second section with Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A, the margin is at 6.15%. Finally, by counting the English Football League One, Austrian Bundesliga and Polish Ekstraklasa into account, the margin is at 6.57%.

Betting options — bad

SportPesa’s sportsbook offer isn’t great in comparison with most of the bookmakers in the industry as they only boast a selection of just 16 sports. The only good thing is that SportPesa has a decent selection of leagues and tournaments for their main betting sport, which is football.

Football betting

The football coverage primarily focuses on the English action as they offer a decent variety of betting markets and competitive odds for the English Premier League. Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Serie A and the Eredivisie are also featured on the SportPesa website and the football coverage extends even to more obscure leagues from Bulgaria, Kenya, Mexico, etc.

The SportPesa customers are able to wager on the standard football betting markets such as 1x2, over/under goals, correct score, both teams to score, but there are also additional markets like Asian Handicap, alternative corners, first/last/anytime goalscorers, etc.

When it comes to odds quality, we can’t really say that the odds are very competitive as there is a big difference between the odds offered for the English Premier League and the other top European leagues. This means that the bettors will find decent value if they like to bet on UK action, but lower prices if they choose to bet on any other leagues than the English ones.

Horse Racing & other sports

SportPesa did offer horse racing and greyhounds in the past, but after their temporary withdrawal from the industry back in 2019, they stopped to provide odds and markets for the horse racing fans. After thoroughly searching through the SportPesa website, we couldn’t find any links or evidence related to horse racing, so we are very sorry to inform you that this sport isn’t included in the SportPesa’s portfolio anymore.

However, the good news is that SportPesa have a decent coverage of tennis events and tournaments. At the moment of writing this review, the bookmaker allows its customers to bet on several matches from the Marbella, Cagliari, Bogota and Charleston tournaments. Each match from these tournaments are available to wager on and there are over 30 betting markets for every event. Furthermore, there are outright odds available for each tournament, which means that players can bet on the winner of the tournament.

Betting limits: It’s important to know that before withdrawing money from SportPesa, you will need to verify your account by submitting the necessary documents such as a Photographic ID and a proof of your address.

The minimum deposit limit is ₤5 for debit cards and ₤20 for e-wallets such as Skrill, Neteller, etc.

The maximum you can deposit and withdraw per day is ₤5,000.

Live — bad

The In-play section can be accessed with ease from the main navigation tab on the homepage by clicking on the Live Betting button.

Due to the fact that SportPesa hasn’t included horse racing into their betting offer, their live betting section is very poor. At the moment of writing this review, we have only found 13 live betting events. Although they provide live betting events from football, baseball, cricket, tennis and even e-Sports, the in-play section still doesn’t compare to top tier bookmakers. Let's take as an example the current football live match which is from the Indian Manipur State League and provides only 33 betting markets.

There is live commentary for most of the games, but the stats and the 3D pitch animation is pretty basic compared to other bookmakers. Another negative thing is that SportPesa doesn’t have a live streaming service available.
