All reviewsReview of the bookmaker Sportingbet from Legalbet
Sportingbet has been in business since 1997 when it was founded by Mark Blandford, in October 2012, Sportingbet announced its board had agreed to preliminary terms for a £530 million takeover bid from UK bookmaker William Hill and Isle of Man-based GVC Holdings. The current CEO is Kenneth Alexander and the company has offices in Gurnsey, Costa Rice, Australia and Ireland but is based in Moorgate (London).
Odds - Average
We calculated the margin for Sportingbet by analysing the odds they offer. We further ranked them in one of the following three categories:
From 1% to 5%: Good value
Over 5% to 7%: Average value
Over 7% to 10%: Poor value
Football
We’re getting our results by taking into account the odds for final result outcomes measured in line with the total goals scored for different football leagues. By getting the average results using this method, we were able to obtain the margins for each league and also the overall betting margin for the bookmaker.
Sportingbet has an overall margin of 6.39% for football and falls in the average value category. In the first section using odds from the Premier League, the margin is at 5.81%. The second section with Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A, the margin is at 6.50%. Finally, by counting the English Football League One, Austrian Bundesliga and Polish Ekstraklasa, the margin is at 6.86%.
Range of Sports and Markets - Good
Range of Sports: As they write in their page, Sportingbet claims they cover “betting action in more than 90 sports – that’s a record”. Which are 36 sports at the time of writing, a lot less than the 90 they declare but still a wide collection. It is highly unlikely that you will ever search for an event to bet on and don’t find it at Sportingbet.
Range of Bets and Markets: The number of markets that accompany the abovementioned sports is also on a top level at Sportingbet. And again, on the website we read that “We offer up to 30,000 bets daily” but on this occasion they seem to underestimate their product as at the time of writing we see 41,547 different bets available. That’s loads of betting!
Obviously, on the major sports as usually you’ll find the most of them with football being the best covered overall. Lower-profile sports and events such as e-Sports have just the basics market wise.
Football
Sportingbet has placed its weight on football markets, covering the majority of leagues from across the world. The biggest variety can be found on the English Leagues though where they cover women’s as well as men’s matches. A Premier League football game will have 200 markets more or less to bet on and will cover close to everything from goals to players, to winning handicaps etc, whatever you could ever ask.
They also have the Build a Bet feature which is like a customized accumulator but all coming from one match. For example, you may want to bet on Messi to score along with Barcelona to win and over 2.5 games in the match on the same time. Sportingbet allows you to create that bet, resulting in some quite attractive odds for doing so.
In-Play Betting - Good
Sportingbet is keeping up with our times being very live oriented. The menu for it has it all, from a live scoreboard which is displayed above the available markets of every match, to further features that can be found in the ‘Media’ section of the interface to the right of the page. Those features can – depending on the event in question – include team line-ups, match statistics and live streams where available.
