All reviewsReview of the bookmaker Paddy Power from Legalbet
We are sure that everyone has heard about Paddy Power, mostly because of their attractive promotions and humoristic adverts. Paddy Power took life back in 1988 when three Irish bookies decided to merge their 40 betting shops in order to create a new company. Paddy Power has extended a lot over the years and by 2010, they were operating over 350 betting shops in the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Furthermore, Paddy Power merged with Betfair five years ago to form Paddy Power Betfair Plc, which is now known as Flutter Entertainment Plc.
Paddy Power is fully regulated by the UK Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority.
Odds - Poor
We calculated the margin for Paddy Power by analyzing the odds they offer and placed them into one of the following three categories:
From 1% to 5%: Good value
Over 5% to 7%: Average value
Over 7% to 10%: Poor value
Football
We analysed the odds for the match result outcomes and also the over/under 2.5 goals markets for several different football leagues. Getting the average results using this method, we were able to obtain the margins for each league and the overall betting margin for the bookmaker.
Paddy Power has an overall margin of 8.04% for football and falls in the poor value category. In the first section with Premier League and Championship, the margin is at 7.63%. The second section with Spanish La Liga and Italian Seria A, the margin is at 7.79%. Finally, taking the English Football League One, Polish Ekstraklasa and Russian Premier League into account, the margin is at 8.7%.
Range of Sports and Markets - Good
Being an Irish bookmaker, sports like football, horse racing and the Gaelic Sports can be found with ease at Paddy Power, but they also offer some of the best specials and novelty markets. There are a plethora of sports available to bet on at Paddy Power and the number of betting markets available for each sport is excellent.
Football betting
We really can’t say that Paddy Power has missed something on their offer when it comes to football betting. Paddy covers over 70 football leagues across the world and the amount of betting markets available sits around 150+.
The football section is rich as we mentioned above and it’s also very easy to navigate through. The most popular fixtures of the day can be found on the main page of the football section, but you can also navigate between In-Play, Today, Coupons, Tournaments, Specials, Outrights or Virtuals. The “Specials” section is a page where you will find all the Power Prices of the day, which are usually enhanced odds or requested bets. Paddy Power customers can also enjoy the ‘Beat The Drop’ competition and some useful betting tools like ‘Football Stats’ and the ‘Bet Calculator’. PaddyPower’s Football Stats is pretty amazing as you can choose a game from the menu and you will see some excellent stats such as Match Facts, League Form, Head 2 Head, Winning / Losing Margin or Average Statistics.
The addition of the ‘Early Payout’ is one of the best things ever, as Paddy Power now pays out if your team goes 2 up (this is only available for pre-match bets on the win-draw-win market).
Horse racing
Horse racing gets a lot of attention at Paddy Power and you can see that at first glance as right on the main page you can find the cards for the next horse races. For a full schedule, you can access the Horse Racing section from the left-hand side of the main page, where you will see all the current and upcoming meetings. In addition, there are stats on trainers and jockeys from Racing Post, which can help you decide before placing your bet.
In terms of coverage, all Ireland and UK horse and greyhound racing are available with Paddy Power, but there is also a wide variety of International horse races from Australia, US, India and even South Africa or Chile. Both domestic and international races can be watched in real-time through a great selection of live streaming services. Horse Racing commentaries can be found on the left-hand side of the page on the Quick Links section along with some other useful tools such as Horse Racing Results, Bet Calculator, etc.
As for the horse racing betting markets available at Paddy Power, users can wager on the Winner market, Each Way, Place, Forecast & Tricast, Betting W/O, etc. Insurebet is also available for 2 or 3 places.
Finally, Paddy Power really becomes very popular when it comes to big horse racing events like the Grand National and Cheltenham when they offer loads of Power Prices, Enhanced Odds and special offers.
In-Play Betting - Good
The Live Betting / In-play section provides lots of choices for the punters, with a wide range of betting markets for football, tennis, cricket, horse racing or E-Sports. The truth is that the in-play area got much better after Paddy Power’s fusion with Betfair, and the biggest advantage here is that you can bet on live horse races, a thing that not many other bookies offer. In addition, there is an infographic available for most of the live events, and also some other useful stats. For each in-play football match, Paddy offers a variety of betting markets such as Win-Draw-Win, Goals, Handicaps, Goalscorers, etc. In addition, the Cash Out feature is also available for in-play bets.
The Live Streaming service is excellent at Paddy Power and there are loads of events being streamed from different sports such as football, tennis, cricket, E-Sports, etc. However, the live streams for horse racing require a qualifying bet of €1 to be placed in order to be able to watch the race.
