Manchester United
The Red Devils keep on falling apart. After a tough and controversial game versus Galatasaray, which ended in a draw (3:3), Manchester United failed to succeed in the Premier League. The Red Devils were defeated by Newcastle (0:1), with the Magpies scoring the only goal in the 55th minute. Manchester United still keep on fighting to get to the top 4 but it seems to be the only task they’ve got left in the domestic league.
In the Champions League though, they still can qualify for the play-offs. However, they need to beat Bayern Munich and hope that another game of the group between Copenhagen and Galatasaray will end in a draw. Otherwise, Europa League is the best thing Man Utd can have.
Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich have already advanced to the play-offs. They ended their game against Copenhagen in a goalless draw. After the previous Champions League game, Bayern Bunich didn’t manage to play in the Bundesliga. Their game versus Union Berlin was postponed due to heavy snowfall. Bayern Munich will soon have a winter break and their schedule doesn’t seem to be very tough, so the side’s likely to use at least some of their key players in this game.

These sides have played against each on quite many occasions. The previous game of this group stage was very bright. Bayern Munich finally won (4:3) and this match paved the complicated way for the Red Devils. The sides also played in the quarter-finals in 2014. The first leg ended in a draw (1:1), with Bayern Munich winning the second match (3:1). Four years prior to that, these teams also played in the quarter-finals. The first leg was won by Bayern Munich (2:1), with the second game won by Manchester United (3:2). Bayern Munich advanced to the semi-finals on away goals.

It’s still a question whether Manchester United are capable of winning an important game or not. Besides the Champions League, they failed to take at least a point in the Premier League games versus Tottenham (0:2), Arsenal (1:3), Manchester City (0:3), Newcastle (0:1). They were also eliminated from the EFL Cup after being beaten by Newcastle (0:3).
Bayern Munich may need nothing in this game, yet it’s not a team that will stop and let their opponent do whatever they want. This is why I believe that despite the home game, the Red Devils will unlikely be qualified for the Champions League play-offs at the end of this evening. However, they will do their best. Considering the problems in the defensive line they have, I guess we’ll see many goals.
